Analyze Data Many migrating animals travel hundreds or thousands of miles from one
seasonal location to another. Some migrations are driven by the extreme temperature
differences between summer locations and winter locations. Migration, however, presents
a significant risk to migrating animals. There is the risk of being taken by a predator and a
lack of food resources during the trip or at the arrival location. The Schreiber’s bats you
studied in this lab are unusual in that they travel relatively short distances from one roost
to another. Some distances are only about 70 km. Why might this colony of bats take the
risk to migrate such a short distance?
