Figure ABC is to be translated to Figure A'B'C' using the rule (x, y) → (x−3, y+4). Triangle ABC on the coordinate plane with the ordered pairs for A as 1,1, B as 2,5, and C as 3,2. Which coordinates will best represent point A'? (−2, 5) (4, −3) (−2, −3) (4, 5)

Respuesta :

A (1,1)
A'(1- 3,1- 4)
A'(- 2,- 3)
The translation P(x, y) → P'(x−3, y+4)

means that every point P(x, y) is shifted :

3 units left (because of the -) and 4 units up (because of the +).

We say P was "mapped" onto P'.

Point A(1,1) is mapped to
A'(1-3,1+4)=A'(-2, 5).

Check the picture to see where each of the points A, B and C are mapped.
