Bring the issues to the People.

Answer:

Through many Compromises

Explanation:

The American political system tried to resolve sectionalism and slavery by passing a series of compromises, such as the Missouri Compromise of 1820 that proposed Missouri to become a slave state at the same time that Maine was admitted as a free state and created this imaginary line that was the “slavery boundary”.

The Compromise of 1850 also tried to solve the problem if slavery should be accepted into the western territories and new states, at the end popular sovereignty solved the problem.

The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 also tried to solve the demands of the Southern States by demanding that slave owners had the right to reclaim their property even in the Northern States.

The Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 also tried to solve the slavery issue by proposing that Nebraska Territory would be divided into Kansas and Nebraska and the settlers would decide if slavery would be acceptable there.

Eventually, we know that all those compromises did not solve the problem which eventually led to the Civil War.
