<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->The Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution stipulates on the issues of succession and the procedures to be followed in filling a vacancy either in the office of the president or vice president. During the Watergate scandal on June 17, 1972, the then president of U.S. Richard Nixon, tried to cover it up whereby, a burglary activity happened to the office of the Democratic National committee with an espionage aim to secure his re-election. As the scandal came to light, Spiro T. Agnew, the then vice president, resigned in October 1973 and he was replaced by Gerald Ford. This scandal culminated with the resignation of Nixon as the president of U.S. When his connection with that scandal was revealed in August 1974 and his place taken over by the then vice president- Gerald Ford. During this scandal, two constitutional crisis' were created by Nixon: one, the office of the vice president fell vacant, and two, the office of the president also fell vacant. The two crisis were resolved effectively by use of The Constitution. Hence, President Gerald Ford confidently said, “Our Constitution works”, meaning the crisis of filling the two vacancies was easily solved by the Constitution.
