Societal needs in the ancient world were addressed in the form of science when it comes to aspects of food and hunting, as well as experimenting with new forms of tools and basic systems that would make the lives in ancient civilizations more efficient and automated.

Like in present, many of the ancient civilizations studied biology. They also came to know about the natural phenomenon and utilized that information to meet the requirements of the society. The herbal medicines were used by Asian civilizations, also the South American civilizations created agricultural methods like irrigation and crop domestication.  

The Greek civilizations are well-known in making substantial contributions to the emergence of life science. They are accredited with developing the fundamental guidelines of modern science. School of medicine was established during 400 BCE by the Greek physician Hippocrates. Even the first classification for living species is credited to the Greek philosopher Aristotle.
