Solving for x -

4 = 5x + 3y

5x + 3y = 4

5x = 4 - 3y

x = ( 4 - 3y ) / 5

Solving for y -

4 = 5x + 3y

5x + 3y = 4

3y = 4 - 5x

y = ( 4 - 5x ) / 3
