Beowulf is a fictional character who is a symbol
of power and bravery. As for some leading characters in the poem there is
only one character who is a historic character and that is "Hygelac" the king of
Geats.
Actually it is this character "Hygelac", which has drawn the attention of many scholars and helped
them appoint the date when the poem was written.
