Religion will have an influence on almost practically everything, as it is a huge part of our culture.
Freedom of religion does not necessarily mean separation of church and state. Freedom of religion is simply protecting an individual's freedom of practising any religion they so desire to pursue.
People also have freedom from religion, for those who do not believe in such. So, with this in mind, we can understand that freedom of and from religion does not mean religion cannot have an influence in our political system.
