The 1960's were well known for the hippie and very early American punk rock movement. These individuals would go on marches, strikes, and riot because they felt that the war in Vietnam could easily be ended, and many lives could be saved.
Both forms of "counter culture", or "anarchism", involved unusual clothes, rock music, and usually survived in the youth.
