I would say some advantage is simply the fact that it raises awareness of issues in our world. People are more likely to expose themselves when they don't know they have it coming. It also allows for some dark humor as a means to cope with traumatic experiences. Some disadvantages would mainly be the interpretations of the joke. People can take offense to it and it won't benefit anyone at all. The comedian dealing with the issue can have a view on it whether it be negative or positive, the intentions matter!
