Let x = the price of pair of shoes excluding the 2% sales tax 

We can derive the algebraic expression for the price of the shoe after adding the sales tax by adding the 2% multiplied to x. 

Therefore, the algebraic expression of the price of the shoe would be: 

x + 2%x or 1.02x
