In particular Alcohol's active ingredient Ethanol is toxic. The liver is a large organ who's primary duty is to control and get rid of toxic materials, like ethanol. Eventually with constant drinking, the liver is unable to handle it all, and begins to become damaged. This damaged though is healed in the form of useless fatty scar tissue. This stage is called Fatty Liver Disease. Eventually the liver will begin to inflame due to the damage resulting in Hepatitis. With all the scar tissue that developed from either drinking or the inflammation, the liver function will become so compromised it moves onto Cirrhosis of the liver, which is the end stage for liver failure. Eventually one goes into complete liver failure and then if not treated, Coma, and Death.
