I think you mean Mitochondria. The mitochondria is called the powerhouse of the cell because it is responsible for producing most of the cell's energy, or adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP).
The mitochondria is nick-named "power-house of the cell" because the mitochondria is responsible for producing energy so that the cell may support the body. More specifically, it produces a type of energy called ATP, which is very important for most living creatures.
