1) A simple, often stereotypical character, that does not have emotional depth and doesn't change throughout the story.
2) A complex character with a lot of emotional depth and undergoes significant development throughout the story.
3) A character that only appears in one scene of the story.
4) A character that is not important to the plot and can be easily removed without affecting the story.
