Why has China been more successful than other countries in curbing its growth?

They implemented a one child policy where families were only allowed to have one child. Now a days, you can have more than one child, but you need to pay extra taxes for that extra child.

China passed a law called "one-child-law" which only allowed families too keep one child, and had to give away the rest. However, this led too a drastic decrease of the amount of women, for many families decide to keep their sons and give away their daughters.
