Believe it or not, the correct answer is none other than: C. Their barge overturned and they ended up back on the island. This seems a story ripped out from a fantasy book, but that is the correct answer. De Vaca's story is interesting, is it not?

The travels of
Cabeza de Vaca was compared to the travels of Odysseus in the story, The Odyssey.

Cabeza de Vaca was a part of a large contingent that was sent to explore new territories. Just like Odysseus, the group of Cabeza de Vaca encountered a great storm that greatly diminished their numbers. Their group was attacked and they became slaves of the Native Indians. However, Cabeza de Vaca identified himself as a healer and performed rituals of healing that made the Native Indians believe that he is the real thing. He became well-respected and loved by the community that when they were set to continue their journey, the Native Indians tried to persuade him to stay and remain their shaman healer.
