In the 1980, President Carter confronted the Iran hostage
crisis. This was a standoff between Iran and the United States where fifty-two
American diplomats and citizens were taken as hostages from November 4, 1979 to
January 20, 1981. This was recorded to be the longest hostage crisis in
history.
