Work, in physics, is the force exerted or applied in order to move an object to a certain distance. It is calculated from the product of force and the distance. It is the energy that is transferred during the movement. It will have units of N-m which is equivalent to J, a unit of energy. We calculate as follows:
Work = Force x distance
Work = 20 N x 2 m
Work = 40 N-m or 40 J
