Solve for a variable by undoing the operations done to that the variable. For example, if we multiply x by 10, we need to use the inverse of multiplication. Also known as division.
[tex]\frac{x}{-2} = 18[/tex]
The x variable is being divide by -2. How can we reverse this operation? With multiplication of course.
[tex]\frac{x}{-2} * -2 = 18 * -2[/tex]
[tex]x = -36[/tex]
So, x is equal to -36.
