The primary cause of economic strain in the early days after the end of WW2 was because the countries where the fighting took place had to rebuild their cities, towns, infrastructure, etc.
The US adopted a plan to help these countries (that were democratic). It is called the Marshall plan. It lent money to different countries that stayed or broke away from the USSR and Communism
