High taxes from the British goverment and the abuse of power they brought to the colonist made the colonist very angry. Uniting all the colonist to fight the British was of of the most important things to unite the american people.

High taxation on the colonies resulted in angering the colonist in America. Colonist grew tired of paying the taxes which were imposed on them by the British Crown. Some of the colonists remain divided during the revolution because of political and economic reasons. Those who supported independence were the Patriots, and those who remained against the war were the Loyalists. The patriots supported independence because they did not want to suffer in the hands of the British. Whereas, the Loyalist wanted peaceful reconciliation with the British Government.
