[tex] \sqrt{ sec^{2} \alpha -1} [/tex]

The expression inside the square root could be simplified using the trigonometric identity: sec^2 theta - 1 = tan^2 theta

Thus, the nonradical form (meaning without roots and fractions) of the expression would be tan theta.
