In salt, what is the nature of the bond between sodium and chlorine?

In Common table salt aka Sodium Chloride the bonding in each molecule is IONIC this is where the metal loses its electron to the chlorine to become a positive action and the chlorine becomes a negative anion.

The two oppositely charged ions attract and form strong electrostatic attractions called IONIC BONDS
