El Salvador has about 20 volcanoes of which about 18 are inactive and the two active ones are San Miguel and Izalco.El Salvador lies on the Circum-Pacific Ring of Fire just above where the subduction zones of oceanic crust is pushed beneath the continental crust thus forming volcanoes, mostly of the andesitic type.
