For a function f, the formula f(x+h) -f(x)/h . This formula computes the slope of the secant line through two points on the graph of f. These are the points with x-coordinates x and x + h. The difference quotient is used in the definition the derivative.
EX: f(x)=3(With a 2 expo.) -5x+4
f(x+h)-f(x)/h= 3(x+h) (2 expo) -5(x+h)+4- (3(Two expo) -5x +4)
=3(Expo 2) +6xh+3h(two exp) -5x-5h+4-3x(two expo) +5x-4
=6xh+3h(Two expo)-5h//// (Divide by:) H
=6x+3h-5
