Words such as "expire," "death," and "ashes" give Shakespeare's "Sonnet 73" give the tone of : Sad and Gloomy
gloomy, depressing, sad, morbid, somber
Any of these would work. The words "expire", "death", and "ashes" all refer to death which gives the Sonnet a dark tone. All of these things denote that something is ending and going away. There is this feeling that it has moved towards final end.
