Travis, Jessica, and Robin are collecting donations for the school band. Travis wants to collect 20% more than Jessica and Robin wants to collect 35% more than Travis. If the students meet their goals and Travis collected $43. how much money did they collect in all?

Respuesta :

so Travis has $43 and he wants to get 20% more then Jessica then 20% of 43 is 8.6 so we subtract 8.6 from $43 to get $34.4 which is what jessica has. next we find out Robins amount and it says he wants 35% more then Travis and we already found out Travis's amount is $43 so we find out 35% of $43 which is 15.05. Finally we add that up to Travis's money to get  $58.05

Travis: $43      Jessica: $34.4          Robin: $58.05

im almost certain im right

t=1.2j,  r=1.35t  solving the first for j leaves us with:

j=t/1.2 and r=1.35t

then we are told that:

t=43 so:

j=43/1.2=430/12=215/6

and r=1.35*43=58.05

Then the sum of all of their collected donations is then:

43+58.05+215/6≈$136.88  (to nearest cent)

check...

t=1.2j, j=t/1.2, j=43/1.2=430/12

r=1.35t=1.35*43=58.05

t=43

43+58.05+430/12=$136.88 (to nearest cent)
