Pollutants are substances with high concentration of toxic materials, that pollute the water or the environment and have undesired effect on the environment. Sediments from mining runoff, industry and urban runoff enter water as pollutants. Sediments from agriculture are not considered as pollutants, because they do not contain toxic materials.
