urban legends today warn us of the unkown and improbable yet keeping it realisitic and is used sometimes as an anecdote to give reasons. much like folktales where they explain the world around them and give branding to the unkown also used as a sort of guide. urban legends are more modern and applicable and folktale is more traditional and constrained.
