Nick Carraway is from the Midwest who decides to move to the East after World War 1. Living in the Midest, Nick has been raised to be hard-working and such. Upon knowing the upper-class people more like the Buchanans and Jordan Baker, he distances himself from them nearing the end of the novel because he finds them to be shallow, uncaring, etc. people.
