President Bill Clinton signed Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act aimed at deterring gun violence.

The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act constitutes an Act signed by President Bill Clinton in the United States that ordered federal background checks on firearm purchasers in the United States, and imposed a five-day waiting period on purchases, until the NICS system was implemented in 1998.

The act was signed into law on November 30, 1993 and the law went into effect on February 28, 1994.
