When solving algebraic equations, first decide what variable need to solved. In this case, the b variable. When solving for a variable, get the variable on one side and everything else on the opposite side of the variable you're solving for.
We have the equation [tex] \frac{b}{-4} = -2 [/tex]
What can we do to get the b variable by itself? Well, we can multiply the left-hand side of the equation by -4. But any thing we do on one side, we must do on the opposite side.
[tex] \frac{b}{-4} * \frac{-4}{1} = -2 * \frac{-4}{1} \\ b = 8[/tex]
So, b is equal to 8.
