The arteries and the veins carry the blood to and from the heart, which purifies and pumps the blood. Arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart and deliver it to various body parts. Veins carry deoxygenated blood to the heart, for its oxygenation. There are two atrium and two ventricles in the heart which open and close and perform the process of blood circulation and pumping.

The circulatory system transports nutrients to the body and wastes from the body by the pumping mechanism of the heart through the veins and arteries.
