God desires one thing above all, that is, peace. man, however, is subject to many "forces that strive within us," which may lead to discord, even war. man must seek to secure a peace between the flesh and the spirit. from what pico says, it would appear that man possesses the gift of reason in order to achieve peace between flesh and spirit.
