The English speaking population first arrived in Australia when a British penal colony was established in the year 1788, with 11 ships that were carrying convicts from botany bay and these prisoners played a major role in the the colonisation of Australia.
As they were transported to new south wales they grew in population and with the immigration of more English people to victoria by the gold rush of the 1850s. As 80% of the population speaks English most of them were migrated from England and the British Isles.
