Because of the fact that Carbon only has 4 electrons in its valence electron rim, a single carbon atom can bond with up to 4 other elements at once, so when a carbon atom bonds with another carbon atom that;s up to six bonds that can be made and just keep adding carbon atoms, and the more bonds you can make.
