Respuesta :

It should be C: more slaves were purchased work on Cotton plantations in the south

An effect of the invention of the cotton gin was that more slaves were purchased work on Cotton plantations in the south.

In 1793 Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin which was a device that made it so much easier to extract cotton. This meant that more cotton based clothes could be produced at cheaper prices and led to an unprecedented increase in the demand for cotton as most people were able to afford cotton based clothing.

With cotton being in demand, the Southern plantations needed a way to increase their cotton production and so they turned to slavery. More enslaved people were purchased to work in the South where they faced harsh conditions in order to bring in more profit.

The invention of the cotton gin can therefore be said to have increased the purchasing of enslaved people in the South.
