Explain the differences and/or similarities between solarization and the Sabattier effect.

Both Solarization and Sabattier Effects are techniques used in photography. The difference is the amount of exposure that the photos undergo. Solarization effect produces photos that are fully exposed therefore creating blac and white photos, while the sabattier effect produces photos that are partially exposed creating different varying tones (i.e. sepia)

• The Sabattier effect is a surreal image-making method used in darkrooms. This effectively inverts a portion of the image.

• This can occur when the negative is drastically overexposed, or it can be replicated using darkroom procedures.

• Solarization is comparable to the Sabattier effect, but it only occurs when the film has been substantially overexposed.

• Both are made using the same method and technology. In photography, both Sabattier and Solarization Effects are utilized.
