The correct answer is D or the final answer. The Us did try to invade Iran to try to regain their people but operations such as operation Eagle Claw failed. when Iraq invaded Iran, Iran agreed to negotiate with the United states in order to free the hostages. The hostages were finally released on January 20,1981.
