Answer 1: Earth´s inner core and outer core are both made of an iron-nickel alloy. The state of matter (solid, liquid or gas) of a given material depends on its temperature and pressure. Most materials, including iron and nickel, change from liquid to solid at lower temperatures and/or higher pressures.

The core of the earth is divided into the outer and inner core. The inner is made of iron and heavy metals while the outer is molten or liquid form.

  • The earth's outer core is in the form of a molten state as it has fluid late of 2400 km thickness. Has a temperature of 3000 to 4500 K.
  • The seismic waves can not be transmitted through the outer core. This layer is responsible for the formation of convective currents.

The outer core does not has enough pressure to be in a solid state hence its transfers heat to the mantel.
