The loss of energy as passed form one tropic level to another in a food chain such that the used energy aren't recycled is called a one way stream flow of energy.

  • A one - way stream flow of energy is generally caused by the lack of energy recycling in a food chain.

  • When energy is continously lost to heat such that energy is only utilized once as it passes from one tropic level to another.

  • Energy is meant to be reused by organism, however when energy is lost to heat and could not be recycled, then reused. Then, it is called a one way stream.

Therefore, one way stream occurs due to lack of recycling of energy in a food chain.
