If its more like what started the renaissance it would be these two: One is that the wanted to learn more and Two would be that they had a new interest in art. Italy was a good area for this because Italy was very wealthy at that time due to trade with their artworks over the medderterian sea with Asia and Africa. It grew very wealthy and thus made it where they could fund arts and learning more.
