You are a molecule of nitrogen. Choose a starting point in the nitrogen cycle and describe the process you would go through to move through the entire cycle.

Respuesta :

I am converted by bacteria into ammonia, from there some things can absorb me, I am further converted by bacteria into nitrates and nitrites, plants assimilate me and animals eat me as well, the animals/plants die and I am released by decomposition, the nitrates of me that are left are further converted into nitrogen gas that is released into the atmosphere where I am breathed in.

Nitrogen goes through the Nitrogen cycle to become part of the atmosphere once more.

Processes in Nitrogen Cycle

  • Ammonification - nitrogen is converted into ammonia by bacteria.
  • Nitrification - ammonia broken down by bacteria to become nitrites and nitrates.
  • Assimilation - plants absorb the nitrites and nitrates.
  • Decomposition - After animals eat the plants and die, nitrites are released back into the soil.
  • Atmospheric gas - nitrates converted into nitrogen gas by bacteria.

In conclusion, a nitrogen molecule goes through several processes in the nitrogen cycle.
