The Spanish were more interested in colonizing in Ecuador Columbia Venezuela than Guyana and other Africa  Countries because those states don't speak Spanish.
4) Tropical Martha nations have history of tense relations and internal unrest because they have fought over land. 
5) Opposing independence for French Guiana, because they rebelled against their leader. I don't really know the last answer.

Some people, especially in the United States, have the misconception that all of Latin America lies south of the U.S. border.
