Hey!
Hope this helps...

First: My personal opinion is that you should go with the answer you already have, but also add to it about how technology has upgraded during that time, and how it affects America today, and how it helps the people of America today... but if you want my answer...
------------------------------
The industrial period was the greatest event in all human kind history, it is considered the father of inventions (not including the people who created those inventions), it led to the creation of the telegraph (now known as the telephone), the invention of computers, the invention of cars, the invention of many more things that help all Americans today!
These inventions help us talk to people long distances away (without having to send a telegraph or letter, and hoping it reaches them in time), the invention of computers helps Americans not only buy the items they need faster, but also meet new people across the globe! The invention of cars help us get to our desired places faster without having to take a horse-and-buggy, or even walking! These inventions help Americans in our every day lives, even without us ever really thinking about it!
Society progresses with every new invention made, with every new idea spread, and with every business made! Without any of these inventions, life today would never exist, and we all would still be writing with quill and ink, and still be sending letters to our folks, wishing them a happy birthday, only to find out that the card reaches them 3 months after their birthday!!
Anyway... hope it helped...
Answer:
The Industrial Revolution affected us in a way that helped us realize the proper way to treat workers instead of labor. Factories were made to produce good-quality products at hundreds a day, just like factories now, but more. Electricity was a part of it, which is at the core of everything we have today.
