Because black men are citizens of this nation too. They fought in the war during that time..so why shouldn't they have had the right to vote as well...?

Frederick Douglass was a former slave and social activist. He was also a writer and public speaker. Although he was involved in a variety of issues, he is mostly remembered for his efforts to achieve the abolition of slavery.

In his writings, Douglass discusses why he believes that black men should have the right to vote. He argues that black men have greatly contributed to the country. They work in the fields, they fight wars. However, even though they share the burdens of citizenship, they are often denied basic rights. Moreover, he argues that the independence movement began because Americans wanted the right to create their own laws. However, this right is exclusive of the white population.
