There are several ways in which people came to the 13 colonies in order to settle. The first people who came over were explorers. They wanted to explore the continent in order to profit from it. Many of these people settle down in the area, and some even became integrated into Native groups.
A second type of settlers were Puritans. These people came to the colonies looking for religious freedom. They built settlements that were separated from other religious groups and attempted to live by their own rules.
A third type were economic migrants who came to the United States in order to look for better economic opportunities. These people often moved to cities, and they were escaping from famine, poverty or conflict in their own countries.
Finally, slaves were forcefully brought into the colonies in order to work. They had no say in the matter and often remained in the colonies their whole lives, regardless of what their preference was.
