The Tiananmen Square incident consisted of a series of demonstrations led by students of the People's Republic of China, that occurred between 15th April and 4th June of 1989. The protest groups were formed by intellectuals who thought that the Communist government was very repressive and workers who believed that the recent economic reforms were harmful. The government answered suppressing the protest using the force and applied the martial law. There were thousands of dead civilians during the violent repression and after the manifestation ended, a great number of citizens were arrested. The foreign media was expelled.

This cruel repression caused international condemn. European countries and the US applied sanctions on China. Since then, there is an embargo on the sale of weapons to China that still exists even today.
