1. Historians generally rate Franklin D. Roosevelt as one of the three greatest American presidents. Describe three of Roosevelt's accomplishments that would lead historians to rank him so highly. (30 points)

You will answer this question in 3 CEC (claim, evidence, commentary) paragraphs. Each paragraph will present one accomplishment, with evidence, and then commentary. You do not need an intro or conclusion paragraph.
Your claim sentence should be the first sentence. Example: “FDR is considered one of the greatest presidents because__________.” Just one reason. It sets up your paragraph and lets the reader know exactly the subject of your paragraph.
After that, you need evidence proving your claim-one or two pieces at most. Evidence can come in the form or a hard researched fact, a quote, or statistics. Evidence needs to be something that can be proven-it is not an opinion.
The last part of your essay-at least 2-3 sentences-should be explaining how your evidence proves your claim.
Below are a few items to keep in mind:
• Do not plagiarize. You work needs to be in your own words.
• You will need to cite your sources.
• Avoid using 1st person in formal writing.
• Proofread

second term as governor of New York when he was elected as the nation’s 32nd president in 1932. With the country mired in the depths of the Great Depression, Roosevelt immediately acted to restore public confidence, proclaiming a bank holiday and speaking directly to the public in a series of radio broadcasts or “fireside chats.” His ambitious slate of New Deal programs and reforms redefined the role of the federal government in the lives of Americans. Reelected by comfortable margins in 1936, 1940 and 1944, FDR led the United States from isolationism to victory over Nazi Germany and its allies in World War II. He spearheaded the successful wartime alliance between Britain, the Soviet Union and the United States and helped lay the groundwork for the post-war peace organization that would become the United Nations. The only American president in history to be elected for four times in office. He died on April

1. President Roosevelt was the first and the only president to serve for more than two terms. This clearly states that the people of the United States wanted President Roosevelt to serve for their country more than they have ever wanted any other man to. With this, we can rightfully presume how well Mr. Roosevelt did in the time he was president, which caused his very long time in presidency.

2. President Roosevelt led the United States through the once miserable times of the Great Depression. It takes a strong, passionate, and miraculously wise president to do this–particularly if that president can barely move his lower body. The depression was horrible but Franklin, with his wife, astonishingly fought through what was described as ‘a state of illness too sick to recover’ by essentially all of America but the man and his wife.

3. President Roosevelt was an incredible leader in World War II. America was militarily a ‘weak little think’ before they, rather forcefully, entered war – but not the president. He didn’t listen to isolationists anymore, and saw the war as a threat to them – and he knew it was inevitable. Though it took some time, America got their factories running and had their war production rate incredibly high.
