For the elimination method, you need to have one variable that eliminates and cancel each other out. In this question lets use the variable y. A common denominator for y in the equation would be -8 since we want the variables y to cancel out. We already have 8y for the second equation. Now to get -8y for the first equation we need to multiply everything by -2 this would leave us with 14x+-8y=2. Now all you have to do is add the two equations. 10x=-10. So the final answer for x is -1. To find y just substitute the x value in the first equation which would give you y=-2. See that wasn't so hard:))
